QUESTIONS ONE- Why long hair and goal

QUESTIONS ONE

Why and when did you start growing your hair long and how
long will you grow it?

Will you ever cut it?

Here is some history about my hair and goals for the future.

I wanted long hair before the age of ten. I started growing it a little longer when I was about 10 but at the age of 12 or 13 went to a salon and they cut it all off into a  super ugly short bob.
My hair was at shoulders at the time, and I imagine that my Mother was tired of dealing with it.
I cant blame her though because I really don't remember the reason or the circumstances at age 12-13.
I do remember how I hated this short cut after! It was a tapered bob that was long and pointy in the front and very short in the back. It was cut with a side part. My hair being thick, always hung in my face on one side and was terribly annoying. I remember putting the hair constantly behind my ears and the cuts I had around my ears from my nails. I vowed to never have short hair again.

My Journey then started at the age 13 to grow my hair longer!
I recall my Father supporting my decision and told me I would have hair like Lady Godiva, someone was supporting my journey!
I now washed and took care of my hair by myself. I remember standing by the furnace to dry my hair with the warm air. I was hooked! I loved this over air drying. Back then there were no creme rinses or conditioners yet, or I was not aware of it existing. My hair grew to my shoulders and I was really liking my new length so much.

Tragedy hit when I lost my dad to cancer just before turning 14. I always remember him calling me Lady Godiva and in a way, this made me want to have long hair even more. I grew my hair for the next 3 years until it was almost waist length. Everyone in high school liked my hair and I got lots of compliments on it.
Sadly, I got very sick and I lost half of my hair at the age 17 or 18. It was long but thin so I decided to cut it and let it grow out again. I already had the health over length thought in my mind, like I think now.

So, then I grew my hair for years but had bangs and some layers. I even dyed my hair a few times to a lighter blonde but ended up not liking it at all so I vowed never to dye it again!

To make a long story short, I cut my hair a few times but always grew it back. After I became a mom I had it a bit shorter because I had no time to care for it. I planned to grow it later when my children were older. In 1991 I had about 18" cut and went from almost classic length to past shoulders. I still have the ponytail!
This was my last major cut. In the mid 90's I grew it to tailbone length with bangs. I maintained it at this length for 10 years. I liked it long, it was actually easier than short hair that needed styling and constant trimming.I mostly wore it in a braid, ponytail or down. I wore so many braids that to this day I dont like to braid my hair very much. I had no clue how to make buns then!

In 2005 My life had changed so much and I really wanted to meet other people with long hair so I finally came on the Internet to find people I could relate too.
I never knew anyone else with long hair, and now I was older with this long hair and needed support to keep it long. Was it OK to have long hair and be over 40? I found so much support online it was amazing.

My first long hair goal in 2005 was to get the ends nice and even and healthy. But when a family member trimmed my hair, they took 8" instead of 3" and I now went from 44" back to 36". I started my journey at 36" and made the goal of 56" or knee length. In 2009 I reached 56". I had trimmed it along the way too!

When I was at 56"(knees) I let it grow a little planning to cut the 2" growth since I was at about 58". I decided to try for 60" so I could say I once had 5' of hair. I maintained my hair around 60" for a year trimming every 2 months to improve the volume at the ends. Then when I was at 62" decided to grow to ankles which was only 6" away. This is my goal at the moment and I do not plan on ever growing to the floor and have no need for this.

Health over length has always been important to me and my hair is not as thick at the ends as I would like, plus its hard to wear hair down now.
I am still growing out bangs that are at finger tip length, and I have some short layers for some reason, possibly from past bad hair products and sulfates, hot blow dryer and bad brushes. These things from many years ago are now showing up at the last 12"!

68" (ankle) is my goal. I have learned that to grow hair my length is rare and few people can do it because of genetics. I believe few people really have the desire to try! This 68" is a personal goal and I know I will never try growing it this long again. Thanks to a couple hair experts who have helped advise me along the way and to the Long hair community where I have learned further tips and tricks to go to great lengths!

Once I reach 68" I will maintain it there for a few months and then plan on cutting about 14" going back to knees where the thickness seems to be much better. This will be from 54-56".

Health over length from then on!

I should reach ankle in October/November of 2012

People may be angry that I am going to go back to knee length and some will be happy. I cant please everyone! I need to do what makes me happy and I always want to be a good example of long hair if I can!
