For a lighter oiling I take a little solid oil and rub it in the palms of my hand,  I use a pea sized amount.

I do heavy oiling prior to shampoo and lighter oiling between washing.

Oil will stain your clothes so be careful and put it up. Do not tie/secure hair with silk colored scarves!

The color from the scarves can bleed into the hair if you have a heavey oiling! I use claw clips, hairsticks of a shower cap.

This recipe is how I started using coconut oil

I am continuing to use cocount oil every week and before every shampoo.

If you dislike the smell of coconut oil, mix it with your favorite conditioner to mask the smell.

Natural oils from your scalp are great too, just use a Boar Bristle Brush to spread the oils as much as you can down the hair. This is why I never apply coconut oil to my scalp.I have plenty of natural scalp oil.Since My hair is almost ankle length, it is hard to get the oil to the middle and ends. This is where coconut oil works great. I have a special  boar bristle brush I use for oiled hair.

What about other oils? There are many, but they can't penetrate the hair as well. Olive and avacado oil are fair, but not as good and are very heavy.

I stay away from petrolium based products like baby oil, mineral oil and vaseline! They "suffocate" the hair and are hard to wash off! Why use this petrolium product when there is coconut oil!

Caution: coconut oil hardens in the winter so use it sparingly as a leave in in very cold temps if you plan to be outside for long periods.

You can mix coconut with jojoba oil to soften it if nessessary to avoid freezing.

READ LABELS!

I only use 100% Virgin Coconut Oil that is solid at room temp.

You can cook with it too! It's wonderful!

Where do I get it? Look in the vitamin or food section of grocery stores. But make sure it's unrefined organic virgin oil!

Here are some links where you can find it online:
