PROTECTING the hair BEFORE Washing (also on hair care 1 but less detail)
I put some sort of barrier on my hair length before washing.
Here are 3 ways:
1. Coconut Oil on dry hair at least one hour before washing.PHOTO
2. Coconut oil and conditioner mixed with water on dry hair
3.Conditioner on wet hair from the ears down.(do mostly)
Trying to protect the length by creating a barrier.
Oils and
conditioners rinse off with one shampoo
have any residue, just clean softer hair.
shampoo
twice but avoid the length during the first shampoo,
concentrating on the scalp area.
CONDITIONER RECIPE & DIRECTIONS
REMEMBER WHAT WORKS FOR ME MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU

I mainly use Spectrum virgin unrefined coconut oil. More details on coconut oil

Reduce wear and tear by washing less!!!
When oiling, my hair is always dry so the coconut oil can penetrate. I NEVER put oil on my scalp! A little oil goes a long way, use less!
I only put oil on the length from ears
down, concentrating on the ends.
I don't over oil or use a lot. I want to be able to rinse the bulk of it
out easily and quickly. Jojoba oil sometimes to add shine and to tame my hair after washing and
drying
Only 1 or 2 drops of jojoba oil in palm of hands on dry hair.
Some oils, like olive are hard to rinse out because it is a very heavy
oil.I tried it a few times.
(make sure your olive oil is REAL. Recent tests showed fake
olive oil!) read about it HERE
OILING BETWEEN SHAMPOOS: I use smaller amounts of coconut oil and
concentrate on the ends.
I mostly do this in the winter when the air is dry.Controls static too.PHOTO
I went from washing it 104 times a year to 52 times a year OR LESS!
Here are the results of the hair washing poll: I wash about once a week
VINEGAR RINSES? (sometimes) if I am going through a tangling phase I do it. (I have well water)
After washing, conditioning and rinsing with water I pour 1 cup water with 1TBSP vinegar on the length only
This helps close the cuticle and minimize tangles. I leave it in a couple minutes and rinse it out 30 seconds. Use organic APPLE CIDER VINEGAR and mix as needed-Do not store!
YES I love to BLOW DRY my hair! For me, it's safe and quick with
less tangling and handling.
I REMOVE AS MUCH WATER AS POSSIBLE BEFORE USING THE DRYER! I use a Vidal Sassoon Ionic hair dryer (old) or a newer Andis Ionic dryer.
I tried muslin baby blankets in 2019 to wrap wet hair and they work perfect!
Removing as much water as possible before I dry helps speed up the whole
drying process. I wrap it up for 15 minutes and comb out. Then re wrap in another muslin blanket for 30 min or more.
my old routine was using t shirts... but never a towel:
I personally don't like having wet hair so try to get it dry
right away. I use T-Shirts instead of towels! I love using T-Shirts over towels
because towels can be heavy and rough!
I cut off the bottom of a large cotton T-Shirt (cut from arm to arm and
then cut one more time to make one big strip.)
I wrap this around my head with my hair clipped up and tie it. Comb after 5
minutes and then re-wrap for 10 minutes with another dry T-Shirt. I take my hair
down and divide it in half, parting it down the back. Now I take another dry
T-Shirt and squeeze my hair for 5 seconds going down the entire length. PHOTO
I work with half of my hair at a time. This works great. 5 PHOTOS MUSLIN BABY BLANKETS 100% COTTON ARE MY NEW GO TO!! my photos coming soon
RESULTS OF BLOWDRYER POLL
USING THE BLOW DRYER:
I work mostly from the under layers and try to avoid the outer layer of
hair. I leave it divided and parted down the back. PHOTO
I USE "WARM" NOT HOT. Most hair dryers these days have 3 settings,
COOL,WARM and HOT. PHOTO Use your common sense and you can use a blow dryer with
NO DAMAGE! I dry in several 3 to 5 minute sessions and let my hair rest for a few
minutes in between. Keep the dryer at least 10-15" away from the hair. I repeat this process
until my hair is 90% dry.
Hair dryers these days have a cool shot button or a cool setting. I finish by using
cool/room temp air, this helps the cuticle lay flat. With a hair dryer you can aim the air where you need it with
less handling in my opinion! Always aim the dryer DOWN to help the hair scales
lay flat. (this is not rocket science lol, just common sense!)
AIR DRYING / FAN DRYING
Once in a while I do AIR DRY. This takes more hair flipping and handling to
get it dry. My under layers are hard to dry and can take several hours or
overnight to dry. These air drying methods
do need more handling and flipping of the hair which lead to more tangles,
combing and work.I rather blowdry.
USING THE HAIR DRYER ON COOL & WARM ONLY IS SAFE IN MY OPINION!
My hair actually stays more tangle free, smooth and straight between washes
when I blow dry!
TEST YOUR BLOW DRYER. can hold mine 1" away from skin while on the WARM setting and it doesnt burn at all. The hotter the air, the further you need to hold the dryer. (common sense!)
NEW SHAMPOO I am loving: (I HAVE NOW SEEN IT ONLINE FOR MUCH MORE)
JJJ's Favorite New product is
This reminds me of the old Thermasilk conditioner that was discontinued. (both made by Unilever)
It smells heavenly, conditions my hair after I shampoo, and makes it easier to comb. I have 21 bottles stockpiled already!

USE UP MY STASH CHALLENGE
These products were discontinued but I still use them. They are on ebay for rediculous amounts!
I still have 20 Neutrogena conditioners, and about 10 cherry shampoos. I am looking for my Nexxus...I think I have 1.
Look at these prices! I looked on ebay! PHOTOS:
originally $5-$7
originally $15-$17
Products I regret buying and why 2024 So... I loved the LOreal Elvive deep mask so much I wanted to try other things from their line. Unfortunatly, the smell from these lingers way too long in my hair. They worked ok though. I never intended to get the shampoo but got it by mistake while grabbing the conditioner. The packaging is exact. If you love your hair to smell strong until your next shampoo, these are for you!! I cant handle the smell

REMEMBER...WHAT WORKS FOR ME MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU
I always comb wet hair and never brush PHOTO Hair is fragile when wet and it stretches. Inspect combs for seams and sharp edges. I like combs better with no handle, although I have some of each. Links to favorite combs:
I avoid combs made of horn or bone.
COMB COLLECTION!

I DISCONTINUED USING BBB in 2017. (only because I quit using animal products)
I DO USE A I love it but it seems hard to find.
I WILL LEAVE UP THE BOAR BRISTLE BRUSHING INFO BECAUSE IT MAY BENEFIT YOU! HERE BELOW IS MY OLD INFO when I still used a BBB:
BOAR BRISTLE BRUSHING: Since 2005 the only brush I used was a Boar Bristle Brush (BBB) but... hardly used one at all until 2010 although I had 2 brushes. I only used a wide tooth comb for nearly 5 years!
This changed in 2009/2010 when I went to a long hair salon (George Michael Salon) and the use of a BBB was explained and emphasized to me by them and also a hair expert friend I know online who worked under George Michael. BBB distributes the oils and smoothes the hair unlike anything. It is also wonderful for scalp stimulation.( My GM BBB PHOTO ) Bend at the waist and brush 50 strokes. (work your way up from 10) I brushed it for a while, but as my hair grew to extreme lengths it became harder to go from scalp to tips in one stroke! Stopping halfway creates tangles,so I had to stop for now
Until I trim my hair back quite a bit, I am only able to brush part of the length while holding it. I do notice that doing this smoothes the hair and helps remove lint that causes knots! YES, lint and dust creates knots! This is one problem with adding oil to the hair, it attracts dust and lint! Plus I only wash weekly so I must BBB the length more often! I wear hair up daily too! The BBB is wonderful for removing dust & lint.I have a softer bristle brush for this purpose. Most of the time I can SEE the lint/dust ball in the center of the knot. I actually have a photo for you HERE I have tried the Tangle Teezer(NO HANDLE) and I just dont like it.PHOTO Maybe my hair is just too long for it because it doesn't work at all. Plus the noise it makes is terrible and I just can't get used to that ripping sound. I gave mine to a short hair family member, they love it. BBB are not hard to find in stores since they have become more popular. I like to examine it and feel the stiffness of the bristles. BBB is not for everyone. If you have very fine hair or curly hair, be very careful!Beware of nylon mixed in.
I SUBSTITUTED THE BBB WITH THE TANGLE TEEZER WITH HANDLE IN 2019 AND IT DOES MANY THINGS LIKE A BBB! I WAS REALLY SURPRISED! LOOK ON AMAZON FOR ONE. PHOTO
